Nottingham Forest man Richie Laryea was named in the MLS Team of the Week for his performance at the weekend. Toronto FC defeated David Beckham’s Inter Miami 2-0.
Laryea found regular football hard to come by at Forest. He signed for the club from Toronto during the January 2022 transfer window but made just five appearances.
The Reds performer was signed as a backup option in the event of injury striking for Djed Spence. The 22-year-old proved a reliable performer, however, and Laryea couldn’t get in.

After promotion to the Premier League, the writing was on the wall a little bit. Laryea was linked with a few clubs in the Championship but he eventually made an emotional return to Toronto FC.
The Canadian outfit secured their first win of the new season at the weekend. Laryea registered his second assist of the campaign and clearly, he enjoys playing for the MLS outfit.
MORE FOREST STORIES
It’s unclear what the future holds for Laryea at the City Ground. If the Reds are relegated this season then he might get a reprieve but if Forest remain in the top flight, they’re likely to offload.
First, the 28-year-old will hope to help Toronto enjoy a positive campaign in the MLS. They have found results hard to come by and they will hope to build on their latest win.
Laryea named in MLS Team of the Week
Forest have got to be happy that Laryea is playing regular football and enjoying himself. The Reds have a plethora of right-back options and perhaps loaning him out was the best move.
The club would still be in a good position come the summer. Laryea has a contract with Forest until 2025 and any club that wants him permanently will have to fork out.
When he was handed opportunities, he looked okay for Forest. He was quick, loved to get forward and was also useful when it came to defending around his own penalty area.
What the future holds remains to be seen. Laryea will keep his head down for now and discussions will likely take place with Forest during the summer transfer window.
