Besiktas have told Nottingham Forest that they can land Romain Saiss during the summer. The defender has been on the radar of the Reds since the January transfer window and his current club are ready to sell.

According to Turkish Football, the Istanbul-based outfit are now keen to cash in. Saiss, along with Valentin Rossier and Jackson Muleka, have been made available for transfer in the summer.

Forest were scouting the market for central defenders in January. Injuries had ravaged the squad and Saiss, fresh from his World Cup exploits, was one of the names mentioned.

Besiktas didn’t want to sell their star defender at the midway point of the campaign. Now, however, they’ve decided that the summer will be the time when they let him go.

Saiss was brilliant at the World Cup. Morocco made history by becoming the first African nation to reach the semi-finals of the competition and the 32-year-old was sensational.

The centre-back is the captain when he turns out for his country. He’s collected 72 caps for Morocco and this season he’s made 20 appearances for Besiktas.

Saiss is no stranger to playing in England. He signed for the Turkish outfit from Wolves where he made 206 appearances during a six-year stay at Molineux.

The experienced performer is now available. Furthermore, Forest have discovered that the player will cost them just £4.4 million once the summer transfer window opens.

Forest will definitely go in search of defenders in the summer. Regardless of what division the Reds find themselves in, it’s fair to say that some of the defending this season has been horrendous.

Saiss would certainly help in that sense next season. Interestingly, he’s the sort of signing that could be on both of Forest’s shortlists regardless of whether they’re in the Premier League or the Championship.

The experienced performer could be exactly what Forest need in the summer and the latest report gives them the green light to go and sign the international defender.
