BBC Pundit Chris Sutton has taken Micah Richards to task over his comments on Nottingham Forest man Evangelos Marinakis.

The pair were part of BBC 5 Live’s Monday Night Club last night. Talk turned to some comments from Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.

Richards was accused of double standards by Sutton and eventually, the conversation came to Forest.

Here is how the conversation played out on BBC 5 Live’s Monday Club:

Richards: “What is your problem with managers being honest after games? I thought you’d like honesty.

Sutton: “I really like people being honest but inside the four walls of the dressing room. I don’t like the behaviour of a bit of a snake to slam everyone else. Take some responsibility yourself and he didn’t do that.

“You can talk about performance levels but when you start coming up and saying players lack hunger, I think that’s a problem. You have to name names in that situation.

“Every player would take that as a personal attack. You know what players are like, they’ll be slaughtering their manager for that. It’s unnecessary.

“Can I just say as well Micah, I did read your column this morning and you were having a pop at the Forest owner for going into the dressing room, should he be keeping that in-house?”

Richards: “He didn’t have an interview scheduled, did he? The manager has to say how the game has gone. I didn’t slam him but I made an observation that I didn’t agree with him being in the tunnel talking to the players after a game.”

Sutton: “It’s the same observation. When the Forest owner comes out and says how he sees it you’ve got a problem with it.”

Richards: I just think there is a difference between a manager having to do a press conference and an owner coming down to talk to the player.”

Sutton takes Richards to task over Forest man Marinakis

On Monday, Richards claimed that the Forest owner was wrong to head down to the tunnel to confront players after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Wolves.

He said that it wasn’t the right thing to do and questioned the owner for feeling disgruntled to the point where he needed to take action.

Ultimately, it’s Marinakis’ club and he can do what he wants. He won’t be happy with seven winless games and the team’s away form is truly tragic.

This is the Premier League, however, and Forest are about par for the course at this stage.

It’s fair to say that a result is required though. The Reds travel to Leeds tonight and they must get on track away from home.

Forest fans worship Steve Cooper. The players owe him and the travelling supporters a performance tonight in what is a pivotal game of this season.
