BBC Sport pundit Clinton Morrison has explained what he thinks will happen if Nottingham Forest decide to sack Steve Cooper.

The Reds’ head coach has come under increasing pressure following a run of eight Premier League games without a victory.

Cooper cut a disconsolate figure last night as he trudged back down the Elland Road tunnel following the latest defeat.

The 43-year-old cares deeply about doing well for Forest and he’s never shirked away from the responsibility he feels he has to the fans.

Will that be enough to retain the backing of Evangelos Marinakis though? Right now, that is the million-dollar question being posed around the fan base.

Morrison has spoken about Cooper in a positive sense previously and he thinks the club would be making a seriously big mistake if they sack him.

He told BBC Sport: “The situation is different with this club. Those others needed to make changes but when jobs have been available, you saw Cooper’s name linked.

“He’s always said he’s interested in staying here and finishing what he has started.

“It would be a big call if they got rid of him and I think they would get relegated. They have more of a chance of staying up with Cooper in charge.”

The BBC Sport pundit has a point. Along with many fans, he feels that the club’s best chance of survival is with Cooper at the helm.

If Forest were to go down, they’d also have a manager capable of rallying the troops and bringing the club back next season.

Cooper might have found this season tough in the Premier League but he’s a proven manager in the Championship.

Forest have chopped and changed managers at an alarming rate over the years and now looks like the right time for some stability.

The Reds might well go down anyway but for now, it seems unanimous among the fan base that Cooper should get a bit more time.
