TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook has just made a huge claim about Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper live on air.

The Reds were beaten 2-1 by Leeds United at Elland Road last night and Crook thinks the club could now act to remove Cooper.

It’s no secret that the boss is on borrowed time. Evangelos Marinakis has reportedly been unhappy with the results and he could make a change.

Sacking Cooper wouldn’t be a popular decision. He’s arguably the best manager the club has had since Frank Clark in the nineties and supporters love him.

Still, football is a results-based business and it’s fair to say that Forest’s run of form has come at the worst possible time for the head coach.

Crook thinks that a sacking could now be close to being confirmed, with Marinakis set to sack the 43-year-old.

He said live on TalkSPORT: “It’s looking pretty poor for Steve Cooper there now.

“They’re only out of the bottom three on goal difference now, they’ve not won in eight and the vibes coming out of Nottingham Forest are that Steve Cooper will become the latest managerial casualty.

Cooper took over at the City Ground from Chris Hughton in September 2021 and took the team on an almighty run.

He led the Reds from the bottom of the second tier into the Premier League and for that he deserves immense credit.

It shouldn’t have come to this. Given the number of times Forest have taken the lead this season and not won, the Reds should be higher in the league.

There is only so much that Cooper can do. He can’t be responsible for players not putting in a shift or being unable to trap a ball.

Still, as the head coach he has to carry the can. Marinakis has invested a fortune into the football club and it’s his prerogative to do what he likes.

Hopefully, Cooper will get another game or two to try and revive the team’s fortunes.

If he doesn’t get a result soon, however, it seems as though things will only end one way for Cooper at the City Ground.
