Nottingham Forest allowed Lewis O’Brien to go on loan to D.C. United in January and he’s now made his debut. The 24-year-old has been spotted wearing his new club’s training gear and is raring to go.
It was a shame that O’Brien was allowed to leave Forest. He was omitted from the 25-man squad during the January transfer window and as a result, he was allowed to leave the City Ground.

O’Brien started last night as D.C. United lost to Columbus Crew in the MLS. He was largely impressive and would appear to be a massive player for the American outfit.
The midfielder was in and out of the team during the first half of 2022/23. He made 14 appearances for the Reds and plenty of supporters would rather he was still in the team now.
O’Brien played the full 90 minutes yesterday as D.C. United lost another game. He will hope to play plenty of football between now and the end of the season before returning to Forest in the summer.
The talented player is a decent midfielder and he deserved his chance. He cost the Reds £10 million and was part of the Huddersfield team that lost to Forest in the Play-Off Final.

O’Brien would arguably be still doing a job for the Reds if he was still at the club. He’s a much better player than Jonjo Shelvey and perhaps Forest have dropped the ball a bit here.

Forest’s loss is Wayne Rooney’s gain. The MLS outfit do have the option to try and sign the youngster in the summer but Forest are hopeful that he will come back to the club.
O’Brien can count himself as very unfortunate from a Forest perspective. The Reds would be a better team with him playing right now and surely he will return to the squad in the summer.
