John Bostock wasn’t fancied by Sabri Lamouchi at Forest but yesterday he scored an absolute worldie for Notts County. The midfielder netted his first goal for the Magpies as they lost 3-2 to Wrexham in a huge National League clash.
The 31-year-old was a surprise signing earlier this season. Bostock was without a club after leaving Doncaster last summer and Notts boss Luke Williams took a chance on the experienced performer.
The player has been extremely decent for the Magpies and it appears he’s been working on his set pieces. His goal yesterday was breathtaking as he planted an unstoppable free-kick beyond the outstretched Ben Foster.

Bostock couldn’t help Notts get a massive win though. Wrexham roared back to win the game 3-2 and put the National League title back in their own destiny.
For the Magpies, it’s looking like the play-offs once again. Last year, they were beaten in the quarter-final by Grimsby but this year does feel a little bit different.
MORE FOREST STORIES
Williams has got Notts playing a wonderful brand of football during 2022/23. He has seen his team amass 100 points and score over 100 goals.
Bostock has helped his team considerably. His experience in the middle of the park is something that was required and Forest fans will remember him fondly.
He signed for the Reds on loan during 2019/20 but Sabri Lamouchi didn’t really fancy him. He played just nine times for Forest and unsurprisingly they chose not to sign him permanently.
Bostock scored a worldie but left suffering heartbreak
Sky Sports built this game up as the biggest game in National League history. Both teams have three figures in the points column this season and it would be a travesty if one of them doesn’t go up.
The game was befitting of the occasion. In the second half both teams exchanged blows and Foster saved a penalty deep into stoppage time from Cedwyn Scott.
Bostock cut a dejected figure on the Racecourse Ground turf at the end. He’s experienced enough to bounce back from this though and his performance, on the whole, was good.
The player who was at Forest some years ago still looks in good shape. As a result, he will be hoping to earn a new deal at Meadow Lane in the coming weeks.
