Danny Murphy has hailed the work done by Steve Cooper at Nottingham Forest live on TalkSPORT. The talk turned to the Reds yesterday after Filippo Giraldi was fired by the club.

Speculation has been rife over Cooper’s future in recent weeks. Forest haven’t won for nine matches in the Premier League and have now dropped into the bottom three of the division.

Cooper has worked wonders during his time at the City Ground. He led the team to promotion during his first season at the club; despite them sitting bottom of the Championship when he arrived.

Several names have been mentioned with a move to Forest. Just this week, Jorge Sampaoli has been linked, although it would appear that he’s got his eye on another job at Flamengo.

Murphy believes any talk of Cooper going anyway is absurd. He’s jumped to the head coach’s defence live on TalkSPORT and he thinks Forest need to back their man.

He said: “It’s not the way to go. Steve Cooper has done tremendously well and he deserves the chance to turn this around. He’s got the backing of the supporters and he knows what it takes to get out of the Championship if the worst scenario happens and they do get relegated.”

Here, here, Danny! We totally agree that Cooper should be given some more time to try and revive the club’s fortunes. He still has some credit left in the bank and in truth, there isn’t a lot out there.

It says a lot when Leicester were rejected by Jesse Marsch and then appointed Dean Smith. Leeds turned to Javi Gracia, whilst Southampton also got rejected by Marsch.

With just eight matches remaining, Forest are better off sticking than twisting. If they do get relegated, Cooper would be the man selected by every fan of the football club to get the Reds back.

There is still a long way to go this season. Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has been an intrigued spectator at recent games and he’d be wise to listen to the thoughts of Murphy when it comes to Cooper.
