Clinton Morrison thinks it’s ‘too late’ for Nottingham Forest to sack Steve Cooper

Pundit Clinton Morrison claims it’s simply too late for Nottingham Forest to sack boss Steve Cooper after the 2-0 defeat to Manchester United.

Forest were desperate for a result after seeing Everton lose on Saturday afternoon.

It wasn’t to be though as Antony and Diogo Dalot scored to give Manchester United all three points at the City Ground.

Forest did have their chances; Taiwo Awoniyi had two great chances in the first half but couldn’t take them.

Nobody was really expecting Forest to go and beat the Red Devils but the defeat doesn’t help Cooper’s cause.

That’s now 10 without a win for Cooper and Forest, having previously lost just two of the previous 10.

Forest are still stuck in the relegation zone and time is running out for a survival push.

Clinton Morrison comments on Steve Cooper’s future

This defeat comes amid more rumours of a move for Patrick Vieira.

The Daily Star report that Vieira – sacked by Crystal Palace in March – is Forest’s main target if they choose to sack Cooper.

It was suggested that Vieira will be Forest’s ‘first port of call’ if Evangelos Marinakis decides to make a change.

Forest fans have been right behind Cooper and there is certainly an emotional pull to the Welshman after taking Forest to the Premier League.

Marinakis has stuck by Cooper on two occasions this season but the Vieira rumours are looming large.

Pundit Clinton Morrison has now had his say on Cooper’s future in light of the defeat to United.

Morrison told BBC Sport (18:11) that he thinks it’s now too late for Forest to sack Cooper and get a bounce from a successor.

Morrison added that he doesn’t actually think Forest should be looking to get rid of Cooper anyway.

The ex-Crystal Palace hitman noted that many clubs would be queueing up to land Cooper is Forest sack him, believing that the club should stick by him through thick and thin.

“It’s too late to sack Steve Cooper – and I don’t think you want to get rid of him,” said Morrison. “You stick with him at this football club whatever happens. Let me tell you, if you get rid of him, there will be a lot of other football clubs queueing up for Steve Cooper, that’s for sure,” he added.
