Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien has scored his first goal for D.C. United. The 24-year-old star notched the only goal of the game as Wayne Rooney’s team beat Montreal 1-0.

The youngster has endured a frustrating few months. He was omitted from the 25-man squad at the City Ground and saw a move to Blackburn Rovers fall through.

Rooney handed the player an SOS, however, and he appears to be grasping his chance. His goal last night came 11 seconds into the second half and saw the Washington-based team claim a huge victory.

O’Brien was very harshly treated by the Reds. He was decent during his 14 appearances in the first half of the campaign but was surprisingly omitted when the mid-season squad was announced.

The player was added to the Forest ranks from Huddersfield during the summer. He cost the club £10 million and he was very much viewed as a player to star in the future.

O’Brien has moved to United on loan to play some much-needed football. Forest supporters will hope this is merely a temporary fix, however, and that he can still have a City Ground future.

It’s wonderful to see that O’Brien is playing well. There is definitely a stern argument to be had that the midfield player should still be getting minutes at Forest.

The Reds player was seemingly bombed out for Jonjo Shelvey. His mistake last time out against Aston Villa was comical and he’s not really cut the mustard just yet.

O’Brien is a workhorse of a player. He tries his hardest in every single game and he actually produced the goods more often than not when he was called upon by Forest.

His goal saw him capitalise on some pretty average goalkeeping last night. After a shot was parried, he fired into the roof of the net and then set off in celebration after scoring his first goal.

Forest fans will hope this loan arrangement is a short one. Next season could be massive for O’Brien and it will be hoped that he can play a part for the Reds during 2023/24.
