Nottingham Forest defender Moussa Niakhate has praised four Manchester United players after yesterday’s defeat. The Red Devils won 2-0 at the City Ground to leave the Reds in a perilous situation.

Forest started yesterday’s game brightly. They were unfortunate not to be awarded a penalty when Harry Maguire handled but lost the game after goals by Antony and Diogo Dalot.

Niakhate was a surprise name on the team sheet prior to the game. He limped out of the action against Aston Villa and it was thought that his hamstring injury had flared up once again.

The centre-back was fit enough to start though. He played in the centre of a three-man defensive unit, with Felipe and Scott McKenna on either side of him at the back.

Niakhate was injured back in August during a 1-0 win over West Ham. He missed several months of action and only returned in March to face Newcastle at the City Ground.

Yesterday, he had praise for Manchester United. They were much the better side during the contest and Niakhate picked out four players for praise from Erik ten Hag’s squad.

The defender told the club’s official website: “We came up against a really good team with a good squad of players and a good coach.

“We knew it would be a tough game and we tried our best defensively. But, they have some good players in the likes of Martial, Antony, Fernandes and Sancho.

“We also have quality, but it wasn’t to be today.”

Talk is becoming quite cheap. It appears that after every game now, players and the head coach will talk about the team having so many cup finals left to play this season.

Forest now need actions to speak louder than words. Their situation is growing bleaker by the week and right now they’re staring down the barrel of relegation to the Championship.

It’s perhaps odd for Niakhate to name-check United players. He is right though, their squad is full of quality but Forest didn’t play anywhere near well enough to get anything yesterday.
