Journalist makes claim about Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Nottingham Forest could still make a change, with Steve Cooper under pressure.

The Reds’ head coach has been under scrutiny all season. His team have won just once away all season and they’re in deep relegation trouble.

Forest have stayed loyal to Cooper for now. He led the club to an unlikely promotion at Wembley Stadium last May, beating Huddersfield in the Play-Off Final.

The Reds have four games left to save their season. They face Southampton and Arsenal on home soil, with trips to Chelsea and Crystal Palace on the horizon.

Letting Cooper go now wouldn’t make a deal of sense. Leeds, however, have chosen to sack their manager, with Sam Allardyce taking charge until the end of the season.

Now, Jones believes that Forest fans shouldn’t completely rule out the concept of Cooper being dismissed before the season is out.

He told Give Me Sport: “One situation that is very interesting is at Forest, where we know Steve Cooper’s position has been spoken about on and off all season.

“They’ve been sticking by him but more than one good source has said to me that it would not surprise them now if Forest were to make a change in a bid to save their own season.

“Forest’s run-in is easier than the one Leeds have – on paper at least – and if there is going to be a change then they can’t leave it much longer. So it’s squeaky bum time as there has to be absolute belief in Cooper doing this, otherwise, it might be worth a gamble.”

This would be complete madness. It makes zero sense and Evangelos Marinakis must now wait to make any decision during the summer.

Cooper does have plenty of credit left in the bank after his heroics last season. Furthermore, if the Reds are relegated, who better to bring them back up?

The 43-year-old is a burgeoning coach and he’d get snapped up if he left Forest.

With that in mind, the Reds would be wise to stick rather than twist as they bid to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
