Nottingham Forest v Southampton: What’s the story?

They really don’t come any bigger than this. Forest v Southampton isn’t a rivalry of sorts but tonight both teams simply have to win.

Forest were beaten late on against Brentford last time out and it’ll be interesting to see how that has impacted morale.

In their last game at the City Ground, Forest were brilliant in the second half against Brighton.

A Pascal Gross own goal and strikes from Danilo and Morgan Gibbs-White ensured a 3-1 victory for the Reds.

They must continue their attacking intent at home if they’re to get anything from tonight’s game against Southampton.

In recent weeks, the Saints have shown some fight, taking leads against Arsenal and Newcastle in the Premier League.

That suggests that they haven’t given up hope of survival and they will fancy coming to Forest and claiming a win.

The Reds know that their Premier League status is now back in their own hands, however.

A win tonight would see them climb out of the relegation zone but they have to do the business with a good performance.

Forest have players capable of the sublime on their day and everyone must come together tonight.

A win for Forest would probably end any lingering hopes Southampton have of escaping the relegation zone this season.

They will fancy their chances though and Forest must focus on producing the goods at the City Ground.
