It’s happened again for Derby County and Nottingham Forest defender Steve Cook has gone to town on the Rams.

The centre-back wasn’t included in the 25-man squad when it was resubmitted in January.

Forest signed Felipe from Atletico Madrid and that saw the player fall down the pecking order.

Cook has kept himself ticking over by doing some coaching with the academy and has been a regular at the City Ground.

The 31-year-old’s leadership qualities are perhaps the biggest absence with him not in the 25-man squad.

Cook was a fantastic player for the Reds during the second half of the 2021/22 campaign.

He was instrumental at the heart of a back three as Forest reached the Premier League for the first time in 23 years.

Cook is a model professional but yesterday he was feeling particularly mischievous on social media.

Derby lost 1-0 at Sheffield Wednesday and with Peterborough winning at Barnsley the Rams slipped out of the play-offs.

Cook decided to go for Forest’s fierce rivals on Twitter with a string of comical Tweets.

His first one simply read: “Wait. Derby,” with two laughing emojis alongside it.

Cook naturally received some nibbles from the Derby faithful and provided Forest fans with some Bank Holiday amusement.

This certainly provided some comedy value for the Forest fans to get their teeth stuck into.

Cook has really bought into the ethos of the football club and clearly hating Derby is a big part of that.

Forest could choose to go with Cook next season, especially if the Reds lose their Premier League status.

The defender is still capable at second-tier level and it’s perhaps surprising that he’s missed out on a loan move back to that division.

Cook is clearly keeping himself entertained at Derby’s expense right now, much to the dismay of the Rams.
