Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Keylor Navas could be on his way to Atletico Madrid during the summer transfer window.

Los Rojiblancos have already spoken to the player’s representatives over the possibility of signing the Costa Rica international.

According to Todofichajes, the 36-year-old would welcome the chance to return to Madrid where he still owns a property.

There is no love lost between Atletico and Real, however, and it’d be interesting to see how this move would go down.

Navas is a legend at the Bernabeu. He has helped them win three Champions League titles and made 162 appearances for the club.

The man with 110 caps for his country will almost certainly leave Forest during the summer once his loan deal comes to an end.

He has a year to run on his existing contract at PSG but the Reds will likely target a younger goalkeeper, particularly if they remain in the Premier League.

Navas has made some crucial stops during his time at the City Ground.

After his debut performance against Leeds, Neco Williams called him ‘massive’ after a string of fine saves to help the Reds to victory.

That game was Navas’ only clean sheet since he signed for Forest and he will hope to claim another in the final two games of the campaign.

Navas could be on his way from Forest to Atletico Madrid

This would be an intriguing move given that Navas left PSG to play regular football in the first place.

If he headed to Atletico he would likely go behind Jan Oblak in the pecking order unless, of course, he is sold.

Navas would surely jump at the chance to play for the Madrid-based outfit, with European football on the table for next season.

Forest fans will probably look back on Navas’ time at the club as a fond one, especially if he helps the team avoid relegation.

The Reds won’t be forking out for his excessive wages, however, and another goalkeeper will be sought in the summer.
