A report has claimed that Jesse Lingard will depart Nottingham Forest when his contract expires at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

The forward was considered one of Forest’s stellar recruits in the summer following promotion to the Premier League.

Now, The Telegraph claims that his time at the club will be short and sweet, with the club planning to offload him.

It hasn’t really gone to plan for Lingard. His good form has come all too sporadically and he’s not scaled the heights that he did at West Ham.

The 30-year-old has been a good character to have around the place. His experience has been important and he’s never sulked or moaned.

Yesterday after Forest had defeated Arsenal 1-0 to remain in the Premier League, Lingard did the lap of honour with his teammates.

He was dancing and joking around with a huge smile on his face and perhaps he’s a little misunderstood.

Lingard will have lucrative offers from around the world, the report claims.

He won’t be short of suitors when it comes to a new deal but it does seem best for all parties that he leaves.

The player who spent 11 years with Manchester United hasn’t registered a single-goal contribution in the Premier League.

His two goals for the club both came in the Carabao Cup against Tottenham and Blackburn.

This doesn’t come as a huge surprise really. The player has tried his best for the Reds but it just hasn’t worked out.

Lingard’s last appearance came when he started the game against Tottenham in March but he was hooked at half-time.

Forest will go in search of some new players this summer and ultimately younger players will likely be targeted.

Lingard should be wished well for his efforts and it will be interesting to see where he does now end up.
