Nottingham Forest still hold an active interest in Sydney van Hooijdonk, it has been claimed. The Reds will go in search of some more firepower this summer and the Dutch striker is firmly on the radar of the Premier League club.

According to Marcel Koppers, Forest are in the mix to sign Van Hooijdonk. They aren’t alone though in this particular race, with other clubs likely to target the Bologna talisman for a permanent transfer.

Van Hooijdonk has been linked with a move to the City Ground for a while. He was first targeted before he signed for the Serie A outfit in 2021 but chose to head to Italy instead.

It’s not been a particularly good move for the 23-year-old. He’s made just five appearances for his parent club, failing to score for them during his brief outings for the club.

The 2022/23 campaign has been a good one for Van Hooijdonk though. He moved on loan to Heerenveen and bagged himself 19 goals from his 37 appearances across the season.

Before he moved to Bologna, he was making waves with NEC Breda in Holland. He scored 23 times in 70 outings for them and earned himself a big move to Serie A.

Forest still hold interest in Van Hooijdonk

It’s many years since Pierre van Hooijdonk went on strike as a Forest player. As a result, the Reds signing his son would certainly make for an interesting signing.

Forest could definitely do with some more firepower. Taiwo Awoniyi scored 11 goals in all competitions this season but the other strikers have contributed little.

Emmanuel Dennis has hardly played, whilst Sam Surridge will almost certainly head out to another club ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

That will leave a gap in the squad for another striker to come in. Van Hooijdonk has already proved he could score goals and at 23, he has bags of time on his side.
