Nottingham Forest are extremely close to the signing of Dean Henderson from Manchester United. The Reds had the 26-year-old on loan during the 2022/23 campaign and a return is on the cards.

According to Fabrizio Romano who has been speaking to The United Stand, Henderson will be heading to the City Ground. It seems for all the world as though he will now become the club’s first summer signing.

Forest are in desperate need of a new goalkeeper. Henderson replaced Brice Samba last summer and when he picked up a thigh injury in January, he was replaced by Keylor Navas who signed from PSG.

Now, Forest have remained a Premier League club and the recruitment will need to be more meticulous this summer. With that in mind, the signing of Henderson on a permanent deal looks extremely wise.

Romano has appeared to confirm that a deal is now close to completion. He’s been speaking to The United Stand and suggested that all that is required now is the formalities being tied up.

He said: “This is close. This is something that has been discussed for two or three weeks between Nottingham Forest, Manchester United and the agents of the player.

“The player wants to go. Manchester United want to accept that proposal, so I think this is just a matter of time to complete the final details and then Dean Henderson has a concrete chance to join Nottingham Forest.

“I’m told it’s not done yet, but it could be very, very soon.”

Forest extremely close to signing of Henderson

This would be a seriously good start to the summer transfer window. It would see Forest strengthen in an area where they need to and at 26, Henderson could be a star for years to come.

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Henderson in the past. Ultimately, it sounds as though the man with one England cap has pushed to complete a permanent move to the City Ground.

It’s quite remarkable that Forest are competing to sign players of this ilk. The star man made 20 appearances for the Reds last season, keeping six clean sheets during his time at the club.

Mark Crossley will be chuffed with this deal. He recently claimed in an interview that Henderson was ‘excellent’ and that he’d love to see him signed by the Reds.
