Nottingham Forest legend Mark Crossley has urged the club to go and sign Dean Henderson from Manchester United. The 26-year-old was on loan at the City Ground during 2022/23 and made 20 appearances for the club.

Crossley has been discussing the team’s goalkeeping department. He was quizzed on the current situation by David Jackson on this week’s edition of the Shut Up and Show More Football podcast.

Henderson tore his thigh muscle in January and that ended his season. He is expected to be back for pre-season though and it’s been reported that Forest are currently working on a deal to sign him.

Crossley desperately wants Forest to land Henderson. He thinks he’s got immense quality and the man who spent many years playing for the Reds wants a permanent deal for the one-cap England stopper.

He told the Shut Up and Show More Football podcast: “I said at the start of the season that the goalkeepers would have to do well if Forest are to stay up. We know what quality Dean Henderson has got.

“At this present time, Forest are without a goalkeeper. I’d like to see Henderson signed, I think he’s an excellent goalkeeper. Whether we can get him, I’m not sure.

“Let’s hope that he feels that this is his home now and he wants to sign.”

Henderson has earned praise previously in his career. Sheffield United star Sander Berge called him ‘insane’ when the pair were part of the same team at Bramall Lane some years ago.

This would be an amazing start to the transfer window if Forest can get this deal over the line. Henderson already knows the club and he clearly enjoyed playing in front of the fans at the City Ground.

The player is at a nice age to come back into Steve Cooper’s squad too. At 26, he could essentially become the number-one goalkeeper for many years and his signing would have to be considered a coup.

Henderson looks to have burned his bridges at Old Trafford. He was critical of his club when he signed for Forest over some broken promises regarding game time during the 2021/22 campaign.

At the City Ground, there would be no such issues. Henderson would quickly become the number one goalkeeper and he’d be a very popular signing with the club’s supporters.
