Nottingham Forest legend Mark Crossley would like the Reds to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Caomhin Kelleher if they can’t get Dean Henderson. Forest will go in search of a new stopper this summer, with the Manchester United man the primary target.

Liverpool will look to offload Kelleher this summer. They are keen to offload some players and the Republic of Ireland goalkeeper is desperate to be playing regular senior football during 2023/24.

The talented player has constantly been fighting a losing battle to become the number one at Anfield. Alisson Becker is the number one custodian and he’s proving to be an immovable object.

Forest will hope they can land Henderson but they will have contingency plans in place; although it’s not clear if they include Kelleher. Crossley, however, would love to see him at the City Ground.

He said on Twitter: “I’ve watched a lot of football and played it. I love Dean Henderson and wish we could sign him. Navas filled the gap and Wayne Hennessey is quality. Keep him there to help along with GK coach Danny Alcock. I want to recommend Caoimhin Kelleher if we can.”

Crossley wants Forest to sign Kelleher

At 24-years-old, Kelleher has made just 21 appearances in senior football. He made just five of those during 2022/23 and that simply won’t do for a player who is dying to play football.

Henderson is quite clearly the number one target for the Reds ahead of the summer transfer window opening. He made 20 appearances and kept six clean sheets during a loan spell at the City Ground.

Other clubs could swoop for Henderson though. As a result, it would be good for the Reds to have other options under consideration and why not Kelleher, with his exit now looking highly likely.

Kelleher was praised by Jurgen Klopp after a performance in the Carabao Cup against Derby in November. He called him ‘completely insane‘ and as a result, he’d be a very decent addition to the Forest ranks.
