Nottingham Forest have placed Ugurcan Cakir on their transfer radar in case they can’t snare Dean Henderson from Manchester United. The Reds are definitely going to be signing at least one new goalkeeper during the summer transfer window.

Cakir has been threatening to move to a big European division for some time. He’s come through the youth ranks with Trabzonspor, going on to make 203 appearances in the senior ranks.

Forest won’t be alone in this particular race. According to Turkish publication, TRT Spor, Roma boss Jose Mourinho is a huge fan, whilst Sheffield United provide interest from the Premier League.

Cakir is 27-years-old and he would likely jump at a chance to move from Trabzonspor if it might signing for a club in a top league. That could give Forest a chance and they’re monitoring the situation closely.

The talented goalkeeper is also now a regular on the international stage. He has made 22 caps for his country and he will feel that he can establish himself on that front with a big move.

Forest are still hopeful of singing Henderson this summer. It’s been reported that once David de Gea pens a new contract with Manchester United, Henderson will be free to head to the City Ground.

However, it’s good to see that contingency plans are in place. With the Reds maintaining their status as a Premier League club, they will know that plenty of other suitors will want the players they’re now in the mix to sign.

This would represent a quality alternative to Henderson. In truth, there probably isn’t too much in it when it comes to quality between the two, although the Turkish stopper is a year older.

Forest will hope they don’t have to ramp up their efforts to sign the player valued at £20 million. However, it would appear he’s on the list and if Henderson has a change of heart perhaps the Reds will act.

Cakir is 6ft 3in tall and he commands his area exceptionally well. With Roma in the mix to land him too, Forest could be out of the race in no time given their stature in Europe.

If the Reds encounter obstacles in their pursuit of Henderson, however, they could find themselves embroiled in a fierce battle to sign Cakir this summer.
