Brandon Aguilera has not made a single appearance for Nottingham Forest yet after signing in 2022. Last week, he scored a wonderful goal as Costa Rica under-23s lost to France 3-1.

Aguilera was signed by Dane Murphy from Alajuelense in his homeland and was deemed one for the future. He was immediately loaned back to his native country and joined Guancasteca for six months.

The 19-year-old has been given a contract at the City Ground until 2026. That probably highlights just how highly Forest rate him and it will be interesting to see how his future pans out.

After his loan with Guancasteca didn’t pan out, he was loaned to Estoril in Portugal. Again that move hasn’t really worked out; with Aguilera making 10 appearances for the senior team and seven for the under-23s.

Clearly, he remains a little bit raw. The Costa Rican did go to the World Cup though and it seems fancied that he’s tipped to go far on the international stage if he can just settle at a club.

Aguilera typically operates on the flanks. He can play through the middle but as he showcased last week, he’s better served operating out wide, allowing him the chance to cut inside.

Forgotten Forest man Aguilera scored a wonder goal for under-23 outfit

Costa Rica took part in the Maurice Revello Tournament last week. They were handed a tough-looking group alongside France, Venezuela and Saudi Arabia.

After a win on penalties over Venezuela, Costa Rica took on France. They lost the game 3-1 but it was Aguilera’s wonder goal that caught the eye of spectators.

After picking up the ball, he glided past two players before dinking an unstoppable effort over the France goalkeeper from outside of the penalty area.

It saw Costa Rica draw level in the game but they did go on to lose the clash and ultimately they finished bottom of their group after a penalty shootout defeat to Saudi Arabia.

What the future holds for Aguilera remains to be seen. With a few more goals of this nature, Forest supporters will start demanding that he’s handed a chance to shine at the City Ground.
