Nottingham Forest are keen to sign Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos after he rejected the club’s offer of a new contract. The player will now depart Ibrox and he can sign for a new club on a free transfer.

According to Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra, the Reds are among the interested parties. Everton, Fenerbahce, Cadiz and Sevilla are also keen to take a chance on the 26-year-old talisman.

The Reds are keen to bolster their striker options this summer. Taiwo Awoniyi top scored in all competitions during 2022/23 with 11 goals and Steve Cooper knows others need to contribute.

Morelos knows the way to the goal. He signed for Rangers in 2017 and has been nothing short of a revelation at Ibrox, scoring 124 goals during 279 appearances for the famous outfit.

Agreeing terms on a new contract has proved tricky though. As a result, the Gers are going to lose one of the best strikers they’ve had for many years on a free transfer much to the dismay of Michael Beale.

Morelos is an all-action striker with a bit of an aggressive streak. The man with 11 caps for Colombia has collected eight red cards during his six years in Glasgow and he does have a bit of a hot head.

If Cooper wants him, however, this is a deal that supporters should perhaps get on board with. Ross Wilson recently left Rangers for Forest and perhaps he is the man behind this particular link.

Forest keen to sign Morelos from Rangers this summer

Steven Gerrard is a huge fan of Morelos. He managed him during his three years at Rangers and in 2019 he compared the player to Liverpool legend Luis Suarez.

In terms of the playing styles between the two players, that’s not a bad comparison. Indeed, from Forest’s perspective, he would provide a different option to that of Awoniyi in the attack.

Signing him would be a risk though. He’s just finished his worst season with Rangers, scoring 12 goals from 45 appearances and he’d hardly arrive at the City Ground at his very best.

Rumour rating: 5/10 – We’re still undecided on this one. On one hand, Morelos has been tipped to join a big club for some time, but on the other, he would come with more baggage than East Midlands Airport!

Still, at 26 he does have some time on his side. As a result, if Cooper thinks he can improve the Forest ranks he perhaps wouldn’t be a bad addition on a free transfer.
