Nottingham Forest could now pull out of a deal to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson. The Reds have made the 26-year-old their number-one goalkeeping target but things have been held up.

According to the Football Insider, the Reds could now move on. David De Gea’s reluctance to sign a new contract with the Old Trafford giants means that United are unwilling to let any of their current crop out.

Henderson spent last season on loan at Forest. He kept six clean sheets in 20 appearances for the club but suffered an injury against Leicester in January that curtailed his 2022/23 campaign.

A spanner has been thrown in the works when it comes to the Reds signing Henderson. Contract talks between United and De Gea have broken down and the Red Devils are unwilling to let any goalkeepers leave until they’re sorted.

Steve Cooper wants Henderson at Forest. He was instrumental in bringing the England man to Trentside last term and it’s thought that the 26-year-old wants to return to the East Midlands.

United have been linked with a number of goalkeepers. Andre Onana from Inter is thought to be top of the list and Henderson doesn’t want to play second fiddle to anyone next season.

Forest could back out of deal for Dean Henderson

United messed Forest around last summer too. The Reds wanted James Garner but when the Red Devils decided they didn’t want to keep the midfielder, Forest had already landed other midfield targets.

The club will hope to avoid a repeat when it comes to Henderson. As a result, the Reds will hope that this deal doesn’t become a saga and drag on much longer.

It’s no surprise that Forest want Henderson. He’s previously been called ‘insane’ by Sander Berge of Sheffield United and he’s still developing as a goalkeeper.

However, Forest will have to prepare contingency plans. Other goalkeepers have been linked but they will know that in their heart of hearts, they would dearly love to have Henderson back on Trentisde.
