Nottingham Forest are still in with a shout of signing Renan Lodi from Atletico Madrid before the summer transfer window closes. A number of different reports have done the rounds since his loan deal at the City Ground expired.

Now, according to Premier League Brasil, the Reds are still in contact with the La Liga outfit. Diego Simeone has made his mind up on Lodi and he won’t be part of the Atletico squad for next season.

Lodi became a Forest fan favourite at the City Ground last season. After initially taking some time to settle at the club, he kicked on during the second half of the 2022/23 campaign.

Since his loan ended a number of different reports have done the rounds. One claimed that Benfica were keen to sign him, with Lodi desperate to play in the Champions League.

It’s also been suggested in some parts that he might return to Brazil. That one does look unlikely, however, with the player still keen to secure a deal in Europe.

Now, it seems as though Forest are still keen on Lodi. The latest report claims that the Reds are still in regular contract with Atletico and would still love him back for next season.

Forest will have to dig deep, however. Atletico do not want to loan out the defender for next season and will only consider selling Lodi this summer.

Forest in with a shout of signing Lodi still

This would be a wonderful signing if Forest can get it over the line. Lodi was worshipped by fans during the second half of 2022/23 and he clearly enjoyed his time at the club.

At 25-years-old Lodi would be a great investment for Forest. He could essentially have five or six years ahead of him at the top level if not a little bit longer.

In total Lodi made 32 appearances for the Reds last season. Now, the club will hope that they can convince him to head back to the East Midlands ready for the 2023/24 campaign.
