Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Ethan Horvath won’t be completing a permanent transfer to Luton Town during the summer transfer window. The stopper played for the Hatters last season as they win the play-offs and reached the Premier League for the first time.

According to The Athletic, the 28-year-old isn’t wanted by Rob Edwards for next season. He’s informed the club that he doesn’t want them to exercise the option to sign him permanently from Forest.

It’s claimed that the Luton dressing room have been left stunned by this news. They believed that Horvath’s performances last season warranted the club signing him permanently but Edwards will now look at other options.

Horvath proved an amazing loan signing by Luton in the summer of 2022. He quickly established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper and made 20 clean sheets as Luton won promotion.

The American international signed for Forest in the summer of 2021. He checked in on a free transfer having left Club Brugge and made 11 appearances for the Reds in his maiden season in England.

Dispossessing Brice Samba proved tricky for Horvath at Forest. He did keep four clean sheets at Forest though and he didn’t let anyone down when he was called upon.

Forest stopper Horvath returns to the club after Luton decision

This does throw the future of Horvath into question a little bit. It would have made life very easy for Forest had Luton decided to activate the clause to sign him permanently.

Now, the ball is in Forest’s court somewhat. With Dean Henderson’s pending transfer hitting a small snag, Steve Cooper might look to utilise Horvath in pre-season.

Forest only have Wayne Hennessey and young stopper George Shelvey on the books right now. As a result, it would make sense to let Horvath do his pre-season stuff at Forest.

It’s disappointing for Horvath that Luton have made this decision. He didn’t get a chance in the Premier League with Forest who loaned him out and now the Hatters have denied him that chance too.
