Nottingham Forest midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate is the subject of high-profile interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia. The Middle East is causing quite a stir this summer, poaching players from some of European football’s top divisions.

Now, according to The Telegraph, Forest man Kouyate is a wanted man. The 33-year-old only arrived at the City Ground during the summer of 2022 but now he could depart.

Forest will have to cut their cloth accordingly this summer. As a result, the club will need to wave goodbye to some players if they are to welcome any new additions.

Kouyate could be one player that Forest head coach Steve Cooper doesn’t mind moving on. The player served a purpose last season but he didn’t finish the campaign as a regular starter.

The player scored once in 22 appearances and did well when called upon. However, he barely featured after the World Cup after picking up a hamstring injury at the tournament.

Kouyate signed for Forest from Crystal Palace. In the season before his contract expired, he won the club’s Player of the Year award and he’s definitely a popular figure.

Some reports have claimed that Forest want to sign a defensive midfielder this summer. That would make sense but only if the club did actually allow Kouyate to depart.

Cooper is a big fan of Kouyate in the Forest midfield though. Back in April, he was quizzed on whether the player would be fit to face Leeds and he called him ‘fantastic’ in the press.

Forest man Kouyate has interest from Saudi Arabia and faces a big decision

It’s not to understand why players from all over the world are heading to Saudi Arabia. The wages that are being paid are astronomical and everyone fancies a piece of the pie.

For Forest star Kouyate, this could be his last move. At 33 now and with a serious hamstring just behind him, this could be the moment when he decides to leave Europe.

Forest have welcomed Kouyate to the club and the fans have enjoyed his performances. He provided vital experience last season and the club would wish him well.

A younger defence-minded midfielder would be ideal though. If Forest can obtain one of their top targets in that position, then letting Kouyate go would be a wise decision.
