Brazilian winger Willian has decided to reject a move to Nottingham Forest and will re-sign with Premier League outfit Fulham. The Reds had held talks with the 34-year-old and it was anticipated he was considering a move to the City Ground.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has delivered a knockout blow to the Reds. He’s claimed that Willian will now sign a new deal with Fulham and the contract extension could be announced today.

Forest are desperate to bolster their squad with some new arrivals this summer. Late last week, it was anticipated that Willian might be the first through the door on Trentside.

Now, it’s a case of back to the drawing board for Forest. They are keen to add a winger to Steve Cooper’s squad this summer and now they’ll have to turn elsewhere.

Willian proved a decent signing for Fulham last summer. He scored five goals and claimed six assists as they enjoyed a solid maiden campaign in the Premier League.

He’s perhaps best remembered for his time at Chelsea. There, he won two Premier League titles and scored 63 goals in 339 appearances. Furthermore, Frank Lampard called him ‘immense’ during his time managing the player.

Willian will re-sign for Fulham as Forest miss out

This is a bit of a blow for the Reds. Willian would have proved a very useful addition for at least a year but his wages would have perhaps been quite substantial.

As a player, he’s achieved a lot in England across spells with Arsenal and Chelsea. He’s also made 70 appearances for the Brazil national team, scoring nine goals.

Forest will want to get things sorted on the transfer front. However, quality over quantity will be prioritised this summer, with Willian viewed as someone who could bring that to the club.

Willian will now continue his career with Fulham. Clearly, he likes living in the capital and perhaps there wasn’t anything else Forest could have done to sign the winger.
