Nottingham Forest defender Josh Powell was praised by Nigel Jemson during tonight’s pre-season clash against Leeds United.

The defender was forced to play at left-back for the Reds once again as the search for an option in that area goes on.

Harry Toffolo is currently absent, whilst Omar Richards appears no closer to making his first showing in a Forest shirt.

Powell is essentially the only viable option at left-back right now and he’s not letting anyone down with his performances.

Jemson was on co-commentary for Forest TV and he was fairly impressed with the youngster’s performance.

It’s never easy playing your first minutes in men’s football during pre-season but Powell has looked in decent shape.

Jemson commented live on air: “He’s very committed and he doesn’t look as though he’s afraid of a tackle. He’s got lots of energy and he will benefit from these experiences.”

The Reds do like to have a real ace in their academy with Powell. He’s only 18-years-old and he already looks like a seasoned professional.

Once again, the youngster is another tip of the hat towards the wonderful work being done at the academy.

Powell will likely spend this season with the club’s under-21 outfit and continue learning his trade.

Given that a left-back doesn’t appear close, however, it’s likely he will remain with the first team for a little while longer.

Powell is likely to seriously benefit from this little flirtation with first-team action and he certainly looks like a player for the future.

Forest will have to get things moving when it comes to finding a left-back.

Although Powell has looked competent, it would be unfair to expect him to play in the Premier League at this stage.

Steve Cooper is a man who knows all about getting the best out of youth players and he will have a plan for Powell.

On current form, the future looks very bright at left-back for Forest.
