Nottingham Forest recently saw a bid rejected for Djordje Petrovic and interestingly, this isn’t the first time that Ross Wilson has tried to sign the goalkeeper either.

According to The Athletic, the Serbian stopper has grown disgruntled. Nantes also saw a bid rejected by his current club and earlier this week, the goalkeeper refused to take part in training.

Petrovic has been in the MLS since April 2022. He signed from Serbian outfit Cukaricki where he had established himself as the club’s number-one goalkeeper after coming through the ranks.

The 23-year-old has been quality in the MLS. He came second in the Goalkeeper of the Year running last season; despite playing just 21 matches after joining halfway through the campaign.

Forest target Petrovic is already making waves for club and country. He cuts an uncompromising figure between the posts standing at 6ft 4in and he’s already been capped twice by the Serbia national team.

Clearly, the stopper would now like to move on from the MLS. With two European clubs seemingly keen to sign him, perhaps he sees his chances of a regular place on the international stage more likely if he’s playing in Europe.

Forest target Petrovic was wanted by Wilson in 2020

Rangers tried to sign Petrovic back in 2020 when Wilson was overseeing transfers at Ibrox. At that time, several clubs were monitoring his situation ahead of a potential transfer.

Petrovic chose not to leave Cukaricki, however. It was a decision that proved to be an intriguing one with the player not getting a move until he went to New England last year.

The Reds have to get a goalkeeper sorted soon. The season starts in under two weeks and they currently have Ethan Horvath and George Shelvey as the only options within the squad.

Petrovic could prove to be an ideal performer. He’s big, confident and at 23-years-old, he looks like a player who could become a star in the future.

Clearly, this link stems from Forest man Wilson. He’s hoping it’s a case of second time lucky and he’ll know he desperately needs to bring a goalkeeper to the City Grond before the season starts.
