Nottingham Forest target Josip Sutalo is subject to a €20 million plus add-ons bid from Dutch giants Ajax.

According to The Express, the Reds registered an interest in the Dinamo Zagreb central defender after missing out on Roger Ibanez to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli.

Despite Forest’s interest in 23-year-old Sutalo being minor, Ajax look to have resurrected a deal that looked dead and buried at one stage, with the Dutch side matching Zagreb’s valuation for the defender.

The ‘wonderkid‘ hasn’t been short of interest this window, with Napoli, RB Leipzig and West Ham all keen on signing the talented Croatian.

Sutalo, who started his career at Dinamo Zagreb, has made 64 appearances for the club in his three-year stint in Zagreb. He had a loan spell at Istra 1961 during the second half of the 2020/21 campaign, where he made 22 starts.

The 23-year-old made his debut for the Croatian national side last summer against Denmark, with Sutalo making another seven appearances for his nation since his first start.

What next for Nottingham Forest?

With Moussa Niakhate out with a dislocated elbow and Felipe missing due to an ongoing knee issue, reinforcements are needed for Forest at the back.

As it stands, ahead of the opening game at Arsenal on Saturday, Scott McKenna, Joe Worrall and Willy Boly are the only senior centre-backs available for Steve Cooper.

After seemingly missing out on Sutalo, alternatives will need to be identified.

The Reds have been linked with numerous central defenders this window, such as Norwich City’s Andrew Omobamidele and Tottenham Hotspurs’ Davinson Sanchez.

A centre-back is definitely needed for the Reds before the closing of the window on September 1st.
