Chelsea have activated the release clause of Nottingham Forest target Tyler Adams.

The Leeds United midfielder has a £20 million release clause after the Whites suffered relegation back to the Championship last season.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth confirmed that Mauricio Pochettino’s side have agreed to sign the 24-year-old despite, making a £48 million bid for Southampton’s Romeo Lavia last night.

Leeds’ No 12 made 24 appearances in the Premier League last season, before a hamstring injury ended his season early.

Steve Cooper’s side were said to be interested in signing the American, but will now have to look elsewhere for midfield reinforcements.

What next for Nottingham Forest?

The Reds have been looking to sign a new midfielder all summer, with Adams and Wilfred Ndidi linked, however, Ibrahim Sangare remains their top target.

PSV midfielder Sangare is said to have a £32 million release clause this window, with many other top sides such as PSG and Liverpool linked with the 25-year-old.

Despite links with the Ivorian international, Leicester City’s Ndidi could be a good option for the Reds this summer.

The Nigerian has entered the final year of his current deal, with the Foxes asking for a fee of £20 million for the midfielder.

He hasn’t hit the heights he achieved back in 2021 when he was linked with a move to Manchester United.

The 26-year-old has suffered from injury problems in recent times but has started this campaign well under new boss Enzo Maresca.

He comes with lots of Premier League experience and could potentially add needed steel in the number six position for Cooper’s side.
