Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper is a huge fan of Chelsea talent Trevoh Chalobah and would like to sign him this month. The Reds are weighing up a bid, with the club keen to add reinforcements before the transfer window closes.

According to The Sun’s transfer guru Alan Nixon, the Reds are now keen to test the water at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have added a glut of new signings and Mauricio Pochettino is now willing to let some players leave.

Forest have added three new players to their ranks during the summer transfer window. Ola Aina was added on a free transfer, Matt Turner has checked in from Arsenal and Anthony Elanga has signed for the club from Manchester United.

More new arrivals are required though and Cooper would now love to take a chance on Chalobah from Chelsea. The 24-year-old wasn’t in the squad as the Blues drew 1-1 with Liverpool at the weekend and his chances of regular football look non-existent.

Cooper rates Chalobah highly and he’s worked with him before during his time as the England under-17 head coach. He actually named Chalobah as his captain on seven occasions and now wants to bring him to Forest.

Forest now keen to sign Chelsea starlet Chalobah

If Chalobah signs for Forest he would follow in the footsteps of his brother, Nathaniel who has also played for the club. This signing would be slightly bigger though, with Forest keen to either loan or sign the player permanently.

The player is very versatile and can operate as a centre-back or as a defence-minded midfielder. Having an option that can perform both duties in the squad certainly be ideal.

Chalobah has made 63 appearances for Chelsea in total. Back at the start of the 2021/22 campaign when the player was in the team, Rio Ferdinand praised the player; calling him ‘unbelievable’ for a performance against Crystal Palace.

Rumour rating: 8/10 – There is a lot to like about this deal. He’s at a nice age to keep improving, he has Premier League experience and perhaps crucially, Cooper knows how to get the best out of him.

This perhaps won’t be an easy deal to do. Other clubs will be sniffing around him this summer but with Cooper in place at the City Ground, Forest might have the edge.

Some might look at the signing of Chalobah as a bit underwhelming given the links so far this summer. He would come in with a point to prove though and that could make him a very useful addition to the ranks.
