Monaco’s Sporting Director Thiago Scuro refused to comment on Nottingham Forest’s €35 million bid for midfielder Youssouf Fofana.

David Ornstein confirmed last night that the Reds had verbally submitted a bid for the French international, but Scuro gave nothing away when asked about the deal today.

During Monaco’s press conference, Scuro said, “I can confirm that I have read the rumours” but refused to comment further on Fofana.

Steve Cooper’s side have been in the market for a new defensive midfielder all window, with their latest bid for Fofana matching Monaco’s valuation for the 24-year-old.

Should Forest’s bid be accepted, they would need to convince Monaco’s midfielder, as he’s skeptical about joining the Reds.

Youssouf Fofana could be the answer for Forest

Monaco’s midfielder oozes class in and out of possession, and although the fee may seem hefty, the Reds would be getting an elite-level midfielder.

The Frenchman featured for his nation in the World Cup semi-final in Qatar last year, once again demonstrating the quality he possesses.

In Ligue 1 last season, he won 167 ground duels, in 36 matches, an average of 4.6 per 90.

Fofana is a player who loves to win possession back, before allowing the attacking players ahead of him to cause the opposition problems.

A midfield trio of Danilo, Morgan Gibbs-White and Fofana is a scary prospect. It would allow the Frenchman to do the dirty work in winning possession, giving Danilo and Gibbs-White free range to do what they do best and cause the opposition havoc.

Whilst a deal for Fofana is only in the early stages, it is certainly giving Forest fans a reason to be positive as the club eye up an exceptional talent in the middle of midfield.
