Nottingham Forest Women delivered a huge victory as they kicked off their FA WPL Premier Division campaign with a 7-0 win over Stourbridge.

The Reds roared back after narrowly missing out on promotion last season. They were beaten in the Play-Off Final during 2022/23 and in the summer, Andy Cook left his role as the head coach.

Carly Davies is now the new woman in charge of the team. Her remit will be pretty simple this season, with Forest seemingly hoping to win promotion to the next level.

They started in the best possible style earlier today. The comprehensive victory saw Charlotte Greengrass hit a hat-trick, Sophie Domingo score twice and Holly Manders and Nat Johnson both score on their debuts.

There was a degree of upheaval in the summer. Amber Wildgust was put in place to oversee a bit of a restructure behind the scenes and the hope will be that the Forest Women can kick on now.

One of the changes that was made for the 2023/24 campaign was the change of home ground. Today’s game saw the clash held at Long Eaton United and clearly, the girls have adapted to their new surroundings.

Forest have a cup game against Solihull to contend with next. After that, they face West Bromwich Albion in what promises to be a close-run affair.

This was a remarkable victory for the Reds. They never looked like losing this one and actually went in at half-time six goals to the good.

The second half was nothing more than a precession. Nothing of major note happened really and frankly, that must have been a relief for Stourbridge.

It would be great to see Forest win promotion this season. They will have a lot of work to do but there is absolutely no reason why they can’t prevail come the end of the campaign.

In Davies, the team looks to be in safe hands. She has worked with the England team at Under-19 level and has also held positions with Aston Villa and West Brom.

Forest have got off to the best possible start this afternoon. As the season progresses, the team will hope to claim a few more wins of this nature.
