Owen Hargreaves claimed that one Nottingham Forest player reminded him of David Beckham during Friday’s win over Sheffield United. The Reds won 2-1 courtesy of goals from Taiwo Awoniyi and Chris Wood.

It was another player who came in for praise from Hargreaves though. Serge Aurier created both Forest goals and he registered two wonderful assists during the contest.

The 30-year-old signed for Forest on a free transfer around 12 months ago. He was signed after being released by Villarreal despite helping them reach the last four of the Champions League.

Aurier proved a very good signing for the Reds last season. He was a regular in the team as the right-back and when the team played a back four, he was extremely useful.

This season he might be asked to play as more of a wing-back. At this stage, it remains to be seen how he will cope with that but against the Blades, he did very well.

Hargreaves was extremely impressed with Aurier during the contest. He raved about the player who was previously at Tottenham and claimed he reminded him of an England legend.

He told Premier League Productions: “He was brilliant last season keeping Neco Williams out of the side for a lot of the season and obviously today he was easily the best player on the pitch.

“Those balls are David Beckham-esque I’d say. I don’t think you can play much better than that. Two assists from a full-back, if that was Trent Alexander-Arnold we’d be going mad.”

Hargreaves praises Forest star Aurier

The Reds played well in parts on Friday night but they will need to improve if they’re to win more matches this season. In Aurier, however, they have a player who has the experience that Forest perhaps need.

The Ivorian has been a very useful signing to the Reds. He is a classy defender and always gives his all on the right-hand side for Forest.

It’s perhaps a bit of a stretch to compare Aurier to Beckham. However, it’s easy to see where Hargreaves is coming from given the quality of his delivery on Friday night.

Aurier will likely remain a big player for Forest this season. The Reds will hope to kick on in the Premier League and hopefully, they can win more plaudits as the season progresses.
