Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer has named Nottingham Forest star Serge Aurier in his Premier League Team of the Week. The Reds defeated Sheffield United 2-1 at the City Ground to get their first win of the season.

Aurier was in fine form for the Reds. He was tasked with fulfilling the duties of a wing-back and he managed to get forward throughout the contest; helping himself to a couple of assists to leave the Blades stunned.

The 30-year-old’s first assist came inside the first three minutes. After a mistake from Max Lowe and some good work from Brennan Johnson, Aurier crossed to put a golden chance on a plate for Taiwo Awoniyi who duly obliged.

His second assist came with the game ticking into injury time. This time he was passed the ball quite deep on the right by Joe Worrall. He fizzed a delightful ball into the box and Chris Wood was on hand to steer the ball home with his head.

Shearer was impressed. He told the Premier League’s official website: “Produced two superb crosses to assist both of Nottingham Forest’s goals.”

Forest defender Aurier named in Team of the Week

The 30-year-old was a man on a mission on Friday night. There has been a little bit of speculation this summer that he might be heading to play in Saudi Arabia.

Forest need all the experience they can get at the moment. They have a relatively young squad and Aurier is an international performer who has played in the Champions League.

Hopefully, the Reds can find a role for Aurier. He’s a very useful player and on a free transfer, he has to be considered as one of the better signings in recent years.

Shearer was certainly impressed. It wasn’t too often last season that Forest had players in the Team of the Week. As a result, this makes a refreshing turn of pace by the pundit.
