Martin O’Neill has claimed that he would like to see Nottingham Forest keep hold of Brennan Johnson this summer. The Reds forward has been heavily linked with a move away from the club, with Chelsea and Tottenham both keen.

O’Neill is a regular guest on TalkSPORT this season. Earlier this week the focus of the conversation turned towards Johnson and he would welcome the player sticking around at Forest.

It looks set to be a frantic end to the transfer window for the Reds. The club still has several players that they’d love to offload, whilst they’d also like to do some business themselves too.

Johnson is the subject of hot topic in the press at the moment. Forest don’t want to lose him and he’s played in both games in the Premier League so far this season.

O’Neill is a club legend at Forest. He helped the club dominate Europe back in the day and he believes that Johnson should be kept at the football club this summer.

He told TalkSPORT: “Defensively Forest do need sorting out. I really hope Brennan Johnson stays with the club though. They need to tighten at the back but I would like to see Johnson stay in the attack.”

O’Neill wants Johnson to stay at Forest

The Forest legend isn’t alone in wanting Johnson to stay and if it’s based on his ability, the club will surely want him to stay. However, this is about far more, with Forest likely to have more room to manoeuvre with their own recruitment drive if they let him go.

The player scored 19 goals as the Reds won promotion in 2021/22. He then followed that up with eight goals in the Premier League last season and naturally, he’s a very important player.

However, Forest don’t want to run the risk of edging too close to financial fair play. Johnson’s sale would certainly help with that and it will remain interesting to see what happens between now and next Friday.
