Nottingham Forest have made Benfica aware of their interest in Florentino Luis. The Reds are desperate to bolster their midfield before the transfer deadline on Friday and have now turned their focus to Luis.

According to The Athletic, Forest have seemingly turned their attention to the Portuguese performer. The 24-year-old will be allowed to leave his current club after falling down the pecking order.

Forest have been targeting a number of midfielders this summer. Ibrahim Sangare has been one of the club’s top transfer targets but they’re making no progress on that one right now.

Luis might be more obtainable. He has fallen down the pecking order with Benfica and he could be on his way out of the club during the current window.

The youngster has risen through the ranks at Benfica. He’s made 90 appearances for his current club and also made 24 outings during a loan spell with La Liga outfit Getafe.

Luis has earned some praise for his efforts in the red of Benfica. Jamie Carragher called him ‘top-notch’, whilst Rui Vitoria called him ‘exceptional and tenacious’.

Forest could see their midfield look very different by the time the transfer window has closed. Remo Freuler has been linked with a move away, whilst Andrey Santos has already signed from Chelsea.

The Reds would be wise to try and get this one over the line. Sangare would be an amazing signing for the club but it looks like a hard deal to complete during this summer.

With that in mind, Luis would be a decent alternative. He’s likely to fancy a crack at the Premier League, whilst playing regularly would definitely appeal to him.

At 24, the player has bags of time on his side. He fits the profile of the kind of player that Forest are keen to shop for these days and landing Luis could quickly look like a bit of a coup.
