Nottingham Forest have now agreed to sign Nicolas Dominguez from Bologna and the player will now travel to England. Switzerland midfielder Remo Freuler has also agreed to move in the opposite direction as part of the deal.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the player will head to England later today and sign on the dotted line with Forest. As for Freuler, he’s expected to sign a permanent deal with Bologna to replace Dominguez in Serie A.

Dominguez is another Argentina international set to swap a European league for the City Ground. Gonzalo Montiel did the same earlier this month and although Dominguez wasn’t in the World Cup-winning squad, he’s set to follow suit.

The 25-year-old has been with Bologna since 2020 when he signed from Velez Sarsfield. He’s been a regular in the team for three seasons in Serie A, making 112 appearances, scoring five goals and claiming six assists.

This deal will see Forest get themselves yet another midfielder over the line this summer. Andrey Santos recently arrived on loan from Chelsea and all of a sudden the Forest midfield ranks look well-stocked once again.

Forest have worked tirelessly on getting this particular deal for Dominguez over the line. The player has made 11 appearances for the Argentina national team and was part of the squad as they lifted the Copa America title.

Forest edging close to Dominguez signing

This looks like a very good piece of business. Forest are essentially signing a 25-year-old player in Domninguez as a replacement for Freuler who is 31-years-old and that has to go down as pretty shrewd business by Forest.

Freuler was perhaps the right player at the wrong time for Forest. Had the Reds continued with the possession-based football that they played in the Championship, he might have proved very useful indeed.

Dominguez is a different kind of player to Freuler. The hope will be that he can adapt to life in England a little bit better than the Switzerland star and help Forest enjoy a successful campaign in the Premier League this season.
