Nottingham Forest will give a medical to Nicolas Dominguez after the club agreed a fee with Bologna for his services. The deal will cost the Reds around £8 million and Reds midfielder Remo Freuler will head to the Serie A outfit on loan.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Dominguez will undergo his medical with Forest later today. The player has jetted to England from Italy, with Freuler having travelled in the opposite direction during a 1-0 defeat for the Reds in the Carabao Cup against Burnley.

This feels like the end for the 31-year-old at the City Ground. He signed for the club for £7.5 million from Atalanta and ultimately, Forest haven’t played the style of football that has unearthed the very best of Freuler.
Now, Dominguez will get a chance to shine at Forest and this looks like an exciting deal for the club. The Argentinean didn’t go to the World Cup last winter but he did help the club win the last Copa America.
The midfielder has been with Bologna since 2020 when he signed from Argentine side Velez Sarsfield. He leaves Bologna having made 112 appearances and he’s also captained the side during the current campaign.
Dominguez has 11 caps for his country. At Forest, he will likely take the place of Orel Mangala in the team and Squawka highlights that last season, Dominguez made more passes and won more tackles than the Belgian.
Forest will give a medical to Dominguez as Freuler goes the other way
Forest signing Dominguez looks like an exciting deal for the Reds. The chance to sign an Argentina international doesn’t happen often and the player will join his international teammate Gonzalo Montiel on Trentside.
Forest have been keen to bolster their midfield ranks all summer. Several moves for high-profile players haven’t come off and signing Dominguez feels like a sensible move.

At 25-years-old, he has bags of time to improve and he will certainly provide an upgrade on Freuler who is going in the other direction.
Unlike with Freuler, Steve Cooper must find a way of playing that gets the very best out of Dominguez at Forest. If he does that, the Reds could be in for a very good season indeed.
