Sam Matterface has delivered an update on Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson regarding his potential move to Tottenham. The 22-year-old has been constantly linked with a move across the summer transfer window.

Now, the TalkSPORT anchor has been live on air suggesting that a deal isn’t as close as some are suggesting. The Reds are hoping to keep the player at the City Ground and are demanding £50 million to close any sale.

Johnson has really started to thrive as a Premier League player. He scored eight goals last season and the year before that he bagged 19 times to help Forest end their 23-year wait to return to the Premier League.

Now, his future his uncertain at Forest. Johnson is thought to fancy a move to Tottenham if the chance arises, although he’s not actively pushing to move away from the City Ground before tonight’s deadline.

Matterface doesn’t believe anything is close, saying on TalkSPORT: “A small update coming in about Brennan Johnson to Tottenham, my source there is playing that down, claiming they need to shift more out first before they even consider that one.”

Matterface makes Johnson claim live on air and Forest fans will like it

It was anticipated that Forest might receive some players in any offer that Spurs make for Johnson. Now, however, it seems they’re working on getting other players out of the door before switching their focus to Johnson.

There is still a lot of time in this transfer window and Daniel Levy will be locked in talks with Forest. Johnson is in limbo a little bit, with Forest likely to travel down to London later today as they play Chelsea tomorrow.

This claim from Matterface on Johnson will have Forest fans delighted. They will hope that Tottenham now start turning their focus elsewhere and the academy graduate remains a Reds player for the remainder of this season.
