Nottingham Forest captain Joe Worrall has been praised for his performance on Saturday as the Reds beat Chelsea. Anthony Elanga scored three minutes after half-time to give Forest a massive victory.

Now, Garth Crooks has heaped praise on the Forest captain. He’s named the defender in his BBC Sport Team of the Week for his efforts at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Worrall was named in the team after missing the Forest game against Burnley through suspension. Furthermore, he was playing after a traumatic week; following the death of his uncle who died in the line of duty being a hero.

The 26-year-old typified the sort of person he is. His calm and composed display justified why he continues getting picked. People grieve in different ways and this showing was evidently Worrall’s release.

Crooks was inspired by the performance of Forest captain Worrall and he lauded the player; naming him among his picks of the week on the BBC Sport website.

He said: “Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, needed to look no further than the leadership of their captain Worrall, who was superb in every department.

“If he wasn’t blocking a shot, he was heading the ball clear. It’s difficult enough playing Premier League football against one of the most fashionable sides in the country, but doing so after suffering a family bereavement was a big ask and Worrall managed the occasion brilliantly.”

It truly was Worrall’s defining moment in a Forest jersey this weekend. Taking everything into consideration, this simply has to go down as the player’s best performance in the Garibaldi.

The defender has years left ahead of him too. There has been talk over a new Forest deal for Worrall and on this evidence, the club need to get him tired down to a new contract.

There was talk in the summer that things were close to being finalised between the two parties. As of yet, however, there has been no announcement on the future of the skipper.

Worrall is learning every day in the Premier League as a Forest player. He hasn’t always been perfect by any stretch but he always gives his all and he’s more than justified his inclusion in this weekend’s Team of the Week.
