Nottingham Forest forward Taiwo Awoniyi has been nominated for the August Premier League Player of the Month award.

The 26-year-old scored in three consecutive games throughout August, in games against Arsenal, Sheffield United and Manchester United – taking his scoring streak to seven matches.

Awoniyi became only the third African to score in seven successive Premier League outings after Mohamed Salah and Emmanuel Adebayor.

His excellent performances haven’t gone unnoticed, with Awoniyi receiving a call-up to the Nigeria squad for their latest fixtures, with Chelsea also registering interest in the striker during the summer window.

A deserved nomination for Taiwo Awoniyi

Upon his return from an injury that saw him miss nearly three months of last season, striker Awoniyi has been nothing short of sensational.

His physical presence gives the Reds a much-needed focal point for their counter-attacking play style, with the 26-year-old also having the pace needed to play as a lone striker as demonstrated by his first goal of the campaign away at Arsenal.

The ‘talented‘ striker may not be the most technically gifted player in the Forest squad, but he offers something most others don’t – with his bulldozing play style very effective, reflected in his goal return for the club.

Steve Cooper will be hoping that the former Liverpool man can keep up his good goalscoring form, as he and the rest of the squad look to build on the Reds’ impressive start to the new campaign.
