Nottingham Forest allowed Remo Freuler to join Bologna on transfer deadline day. The experienced midfielder was in action for Switzerland last night and it would appear he’s in confident spirits.

Freuler made his first appearance of the campaign as Switzerland were cruelly denied a win, with Kosovo equalising in the fourth minute of stoppage time at the end of the second half.

The 31-year-old didn’t quite work out at Forest. He checked in last summer from Atalanta and he quickly got himself into the team, captaining the team on some occasions during 2022/23.

Signing Danilo seemed to shunt Freuler down the Forest pecking order. The Reds player didn’t feature once in the final six games of the campaign as Forest secured their Premier League status.

Now, he will head out on loan to Bologna and he should be capable of thriving back in Serie A. Freuler will spend this season with Bologna, with Forest likely to assess the situation next summer.

Last night the national media delivered an interesting assessment of Freuler. 20min wrote: “Worked well backwards and forwards. Was successful twice and therefore actually the man of the match from a Swiss point of view.”

Freuler stars after leaving Forest on loan

It never really worked out for the Switzerland maestro at Forest. Freuler didn’t really suit the style of football that Steve Cooper wants to deploy and he will welcome the chance to play more frequently.

At 31, he needs to be playing more frequently. He should be more than capable of starring back in Serie A and Forest will hope that they can sell him next summer.

This performance last night was a positive step for Freuler. Although it was only against Kosovo, the midfielder will be buoyed by this display and he will hope to continue that level of performance with Bologna.
