Nottingham Forest believe that new signing Andrew Omobamidele can be a star of the future. The central defender beat the clock as the Reds saw a bid accepted late in the day on transfer deadline day.

According to The Athletic, it’s claimed that Omobamidele is viewed by Forest as one for the future. However, it’s suggested that he could still have a role to play in the short term too.

The Reds feel as though they’ve signed one of the best defenders outside of the EFL. Now, the Republic of Ireland international will hope to get himself in position to play Premier League football.

Steve Cooper has favoured three central defenders so far during the 2023/24 campaign. As a result, that could throw up more opportunities for the youngster to play.

Omobamidele played 55 times for Norwich before he made the switch to Forest. He’s risen through the club’s academy ranks and the £11 million that the Reds have paid could prove a steal.

Forest do have a number of defenders in their ranks now. Joe Worrall has been in fine form, with Willy Boly, Scott McKenna, Felipe, Moussa Niakhate and Murillo also in the ranks.

Forest think Omobamidele will be a star of the future

This does look like an interesting signing. Forest made a late move to sign Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea on transfer deadline day but when he rejected the move, the Reds switched their focus.

Omobamidele looks like a quality addition to the ranks and does come with one eye on the future. When he was 18, he was called ‘outstanding’ after starring for Norwich during a game against Huddersfield.

At 21-years-old, the future looks so bright for the player. Omobamidele comes with a reputation as a quality ball-playing central defender and this looks like a sensible piece of business.
