Giulian Biancone will leave Nottingham Forest on a permanent basis today. The Reds player is set to sign for Olympiacos to end just over 12 months at the City Ground.

The defender has endured rotten luck at Forest. He ruptured his ACL in training last October and hasn’t made a competitive appearance since.

Now, according to Sportime, the right-sided option is set to leave for Olympiacos. That in itself isn’t a surprise but the fact that it’s permanent is.

The 23-year-old signed from Troyes in France and he’d starred for them. Regular action proved difficult with Forest though and he made just three appearances.

Forest were linked with loaning out Biancone earlier this summer. However, it’s now becoming clear that he’s going to leave on a permanent basis.

The defender made an appearance for the B-Team back in August as they drew 2-2 with Middlesbrough. He did, however, feature briefly in just one pre-season game under Steve Cooper this summer.

This ultimately makes a lot of sense. The Reds have struggled to get players out of the door on a permanent basis, instead choosing to loan several of them out.

Although that’s better than nothing, it’s good to see Biancone get the chance to start his new chapter in Greece. The player is craving regular football and he should get that with Olympiacos.

It’s hard not to feel some sympathy for Biancone. He was adapting to life in England with substitute outings but then disaster struck with his serious knee injury.

He’s worked tirelessly to get back fit and now he needs to be out on the pitch testing that injury and playing regular football.

Perhaps the final straw for Biancone came last month. He wasn’t even in the squad for the Carabao Cup game against Burnley; with Forest now boasting Serge Aurier, Neco Williams and Gonzalo Montiel for the right-back spot.
