Paul Merson thinks he knows where Nottingham Forest are going to finish in the Premier League this season. The Reds have won two and drawn one of their first five matches during 2023/24.
Forest were held to a 1-1 draw by Burnley at the City Ground on Monday night. They didn’t play as well as they can and Steve Cooper has a conundrum with a lot of new players.

It will take a little bit of time for things to settle after a dramatic transfer deadline day. Forest added seven new players on the final day and naturally things will take some time to settle.
Merson spoke about Forest when it came to discussing Chelsea. The Reds went to Stamford Bridge and won before the international break, with the Blues only managing to beat Luton this season.
After mentioning Forest, he’s suggested that he knows where the Reds will finish this season. He doesn’t see the club progressing too much from 2022/23.
He told Sky Sports: “I worry for Chelsea. Apart from Liverpool, every team they’ve played could finish in the bottom half of the table. Maybe that’s harsh on West Ham given the way they’ve started. But Bournemouth, Luton, Nottingham Forest – If they’re not in the bottom six or seven, I’d be shocked.”
Merson thinks he knows where Forest are going to finish
At this stage, nobody can predict where several teams are going to finish. The challenge for Forest is to quickly decide on the strongest team and then hope to improve on last season’s 16th place.

Merson is well within his rights to think that Forest will finish so low down the division. Indeed, if Forest were to finish 13th or 14th, it would at least represent some progress.
The Reds will be aiming higher though. After breaking their transfer record again with the signing of Ibrahim Sangare, the club will have loftier ambitions than the ones Merson thinks they can achieve.
