Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White has come in for some criticism after yesterday’s defeat to Manchester City. The Reds lost 2-0 and the forward was involved in Rodri getting sent off.

Michael Brown was covering the game for BBC Sport. He started his playing career with City and he didn’t believe that Gibbs-White covered himself in glory in the incident.

The 23-year-old perhaps didn’t need to act as he did by going to the floor. In this day and age, however, it’s becoming more of a common theme among players.

Rodri didn’t have to wrap both of his sizeable hands around the neck of Gibbs-White. That in itself would have likely earned the Spaniard a red card and there was simply no need.

Forest man Gibbs-White is coming in for some flak, however. Brown isn’t happy with how he behaved during that flash point in the contest and has criticised him.

He told BBC Sport: “He goes to touch him on the neck, Gibbs-White at that point dives straight down. The reaction was incredible. No need for that at all.”

Brown criticises Forest player Gibbs-White

The man who played for City, Sheffield United and Leeds is way off the mark here. Rodri doesn’t feel for Gibbs-White’s neck, he actually grabs him with both hands.

Perhaps Brown could explain why Rodri was searching to find Gibbs-White’s neck in the first place. Was he after an autograph, or was he arranging to swap shirts with the player after the game?

Furthermore, Pep Guardiola said afterwards that Rodri was sorry for what he did to Forest star Gibbs-White. Why was he apologising if he apparently didn’t do anything wrong?

Brown – and other pundits – need to learn a little bit about the laws of the game here. Rodri raised his hands and although Gibbs-White went to the ground easily, the Forest man can’t be blamed for such a stupid act by an experienced player.
