Nottingham Forest allowed Gustavo Scarpa to leave the City Ground this summer and last night he starred for Olympiacos. The Brazilian was making his second start since arriving in Greece.

The 29-year-old signed for the Reds in January. Scarpa added something to the Forest ranks that other forward options perhaps didn’t have but he endured some frustrations.

At the time of his inclusion in matchday squads, Scarpa was involved in some of his personal details being hacked and was forced to head back to Brazil. If that wasn’t frustrating enough, he picked up an injury upon his return.

Scarpa is only on loan with Olympiacos at the moment. He has a City Ground contract that runs until 2026 and Forest will likely command a decent fee in order to sell him permanently.

It has been claimed that the player might seek a move back to Brazil either in January or in the summer. Those notions have been dismissed for now and yesterday he shone for Olympiacos.

The Greek outfit thrashed AE Kifisias on home soil, with Scarpa playing the whole game. Some of his stats were impressive, with the Brazilian completing 26 out of his 28 passes and winning half of the ground duels he attempted.

Scarpa had 58 touches during the contest and also had four shots on goal. Now, the player will hope to hold down a place in the team as he looks to leave his Forest debacle behind him.

So far, the Brazilian had been forced to feed off scraps for Olympiacos. He was struggling to get in the team and it had looked like it was proving another frustrating loan.

A sound performance and a huge win, however, might force Diego Martinez to give him more game time. At 29, it’s what Scarpa will be craving and he will be desperate to succeed.

Scarpa made just 10 appearances for Forest during his time at the club. On a free transfer, the Reds haven’t really lost anything and perhaps it’s best for all parties if a permanent move is sorted out.

Olympiacos will get this season to look at him. As a likeable character, supporters will wish him well for the future but it does feel as though he will struggle to make another Premier League appearance.
